A new product against deer ked has been developed and tested in Finland, the purpose of the MetsäDeo is to mask the smell of humans and thus interfere with the sensory perceptions of deer ked, which means that deer keds do not take such a target so easily. The product has been developed and tested in Finland, does not contain toxins and does not harm insects. MetsäDeo is the only functional product against deer ked, with laboratory tests and tested by numerous outdoors people.

A new and proven product against deer ked! You can enjoy the autumn forest trip again! The product has been tested together with those who travelled in nature in the autumn of 2021, and the natural resource center LUKE has also conducted efficiency studies of the product. It does not contain environmentally harmful biocides and does not harm insects - only messes with the sensory receiption of deer ked, so they are not as easily mistaken for humans.

MetsäDeo was tested under controlled conditions in a greenhouse in November 2020. The temperature in the greenhouse was about 10 ° C. The testing was carried out in a greenhouse because there were not so many deer ked available that the efficacy could be tested reliably in the wild. The test included 30 deer flies captured from the forest, tested one at a time and monitored for behavior. The MetsäDeo -treatment was done by applying the repellent to the skin from the wrist to the elbow and the other hand was untreated. A total of 14 deer flies avoided the treated area and remained in the untreated area. Five (5) deer flies dropped out of the treated area when placed in it, but four (4) deer flies walked in the treated area regardless of the product and did not drop out of it. Seven (7) deer flies traveled back and forth from the untreated area to the treated area. There was some difference in the behavior of deer flies towards the repellent.

Instructions for use: MetsäDeo is sprayed on outerwear at a distance of about 20 cm: 5 sprays into the hat. 3 sprays on the collar of the jacket. 3 sprays on the cuffs. Do not spray on skin. Avoid contact with broken skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Avoid unnecessary skin contact. Keep out of reach of children.

The test sites extended from the Oulu region all the way to southern Finland. The test group consisted of 17 people, 9 men, 7 women and 1 child (6 years old), with more than 100 test times and an average time in the forest of 2.5 hours. The tests were performed in pairs, with one test subject treated with Deo and the other not. At the end of the test, there were 5-80 deer keds in the clothes / hair of untreated individuals and 0-2 flies in those who used Deo. The largest single difference in the test was in 0 of the keds that received Deo and 76 of those that did not. LUKE's test had been done as skin contact, while the test with real conditions in the forest had been done as outerwear contact.
