Nortent Helleren Extreme Tarp is a great choice for those, who want an ultralight option that protects from the elements, but also doesn't compromise on durability and quality. The weight of the Helleren tarp has been compressed to only 290 grams, which is very impressive for a 4 x 3m tarp.Helleren Extreme packs into a very small space, in fact so small that it can be stored in a pocket. Helleren Tarp is suitable both for hammocking and for additional space for tents. Adjust the tarp as an extension of the tent and you will get additional space that is well covered. For example, Nortent Lavvo 6 has D-loops above the opening, where the tarp can be easily attached. The tarp is very versatile and adapts to many needs and layouts.
The gray color of the tarp is the same as in Nortent tents, so it blends nicely, when used with Nortent tents. The tarp's storage bag is sewn to the fabric, so when the tarp is in use, you can store various things in the bag, and you don't have to worry about the bag getting lost. The attachment points for the guy lines, and especially their durability, are vital for the functionality of the tarp. In Helleren Extreme, the attachment points are reinforced with dyneema and durable rubber, so for example a hiking stick can be perfectly placed in the attachment point.
Everything in the tarp has been thought out perfectly, the locations of the attachment points and the reinforcements, as well as the seams of the fabrics, which are placed in exactly the right places, so that the stress is optimally distributed on the tarp. Helleren Tarp comes with 8 very light pegs. The pegs are designed to withstand as much load as possible, and they tried to make them as light as possible. The weight of one peg is 9 grams, so job well done.
When you're in the wilderness and you want to get yourself a quick shelter, nothing is more annoying than fiddling with guy lines and knots. With this in mind, Nortent has installed hooks at the ends of the guy lines, with which you can attach the tarp to almost anything you see fit, and you don't have to think about knots. When you pack up the tarp, each string has simple attachment point where they can be wrapped, this prevents the lines from tangling.
Nortent Helleren Extreme Tarp is sewn with a so-called catenary cut. This cut has been chosen to minimize movement and "flapping" of the tarp in windy weather. Standard square tarps are significantly more sensitive to "flapping" in the wind. Nortent Helleren's Extreme Tarp is the king of ultralight tarps, and once you get this one, you won't want to use any other tarp anymore.
